CPS sets up Neighborhood Action Councils for Charter Proposals | 10.4.13

If you live in any of the priority areas for charter expansion you are invited to apply to be on an NAC. Application here: http://www.cps.edu/NEWSCHOOLS/Pages/Process.aspx

Areas where CPS has put out a request for proposal for new charters: Ashburn, Belmont-Cragin, Chicago McKinley Park, Midway,Reed Dunning.

HS only – other areas of NW/SW side including Albany Park, Little Village, Logan Square, Pilsen. Sauganash.

Things to note about this RFP for charters:

Only 50% of teachers must be certified at these schools.

Note: New Schools for Chicago, an organization that has a mission of expanding charter schools to serve over 115,000 students is the group coordinating these Neighborhood Action Councils with CPS. 2 current CPS Board members and CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett are on the Board of New Schools for Chicago.  The rest of the board is made up only of CEOs and other business leaders in Chicago.
