ISBE now has a draft ESSA state plan here:
(Appendices here: http://www.isbe.net/essa/pdf/ESSA-Illinois-State-Plan-draft-1-appendices... )
Here's ISBE's report on the first listening tour:
The Chicago ISBE listening tour date is Tuesday, September 27th at 4:30pm at Simeon HS (8147 S. Vincennes Ave).
(There's also one on Monday the 26th in Lockport at 4:30pm and one on Wednesday the 28th in Streamwood at 5pm.)
Anyone who is willing to attend and speak, please let us know!
It would be good if ISBE can continue to hear from parents (and teachers and community members) about the low-quality of PARCC, the fact that ESSA was explicit about not overruling local/state laws on opt out and the need for Illinois to pursue alternatives to standardized tests as indicators of academic achievement. Other possible topics include possible ESSA impacts on special education, ELL students, and school evaluations.
