Now more than ever, Raise Your Hand needs your support to continue our work of preserving public education in Chicago and Illinois.
Here are three examples of things we’ve achieved just this school-year alone:
Led an eight-month campaign to stop the opening of a new $60M selective high school, which yielded $30M back to our district. This involved hours of organizing: petition drives, testimony at Board of Education meetings, canvassing, etc., and helped to avert a strike this year.
Ensured parents of special education students have the latest updates on what is happening in CPS and Illinois, know their rights, and can advocate for services with accurate information. Raise Your Hand created a comprehensive special education toolkit and also brought a panel of experts together in October to inform parents on special ed law and rights.
Removed the isolation LSC members face at their individual schools and brought them together to advocate on common concerns. Raise Your Hand engaged LSC members at over 150 schools in two letter-writing campaigns to the Board of Education on budget issues. The second campaign is in progress right now and in three weeks, over 415 LSC members at 147 schools signed the letter. You can read it here and pass on to your LSC!
Raise Your Hand operates on a shoestring budget and needs your support to continue our work. Please consider making a donation today!
