Join us! Communities Planning for Their Schools Workshop

We and Blocks Together have an exciting event, Schools as Anchors: Communities Planning for Their Schools coming up in less than 2 weeks, on Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13, at Beidler Elementary school in Garfield Park, 3151 W. Walnut Street. All the details and registration are in this Eventbrite. Thanks to Crossroads Fund for supporting this event!

Please join us to learn more about best practices in planning for school facilities and programming from Mary Filardo, Executive Director of the 21st Century School Fund.

Through practical workshops guided by national experts and local practitioners, we will learn best practices for:

  • the joint use of buildings.
  • proposing new attendance boundaries.
  • developing new programs to recruit students.
  • potential school mergers.

This is a 1 1/2 day event. Come whenever you can. Childcare, translation, and food will be provided during both days. There is on street parking as well as a parking lot. Beidler Elementary, 3151 W. Walnut Street, is accessible via the Green Line.

Friday, July 12th: 9am to 4pm, Breakfast and Lunch provided

Saturday, July 13th: 9am to 12pm, Breakfast and Lunch provided

Please reach out to jennie@ilraiseyourhand.org with any questions. We know it's short notice, but hope these workshops may be useful to communities planning for their schools. Thanks for reading and please share!

June 2019 CPS Board of Ed meeting

We were at last week’s unelected CPS Board of Education meeting. See our web page here which includes our statements, links to a video of Jianan and Joy speaking and to our live tweets, and all the media coverage. There is a new meeting format which allows public discussion between the board members before voting. Discussion included a revised School Quality Rating Policy (SQRP 2.0), Student Code of Conduct updates and a new CPS gifted policy. Public votes were taken on each of these policies as well as some contracts.

ICYMI… We have a new Executive Director!

Please welcome Jianan Shi! Read more here
